The pattern to notice is the interval. Greenwood Village takes claim grade hail roughly every two to four years, which means a thirty year roof here lives through eight to a dozen real hail events. That cadence, not any single storm, is what should drive material choices and inspection habits.
The most recent direct hit came on July 9, 2026, when severe thunderstorms dropped hail up to 1.5 inches on Greenwood Village and nearby suburbs. The Denver Tech Center took quarter size stones, flooding hit near Cherry Creek Reservoir, and 60 mph gusts snarled the I-25 evening commute. Centennial, Lone Tree, Englewood and Sheridan sat in the same swath. The June 1, 2026 event, by contrast, was genuinely metro wide, with hail up to 2 inches across the Denver area and named damage in Englewood and Sheridan directly north of the Village line.
The June 19, 2018 event deserves its own paragraph in any Village roof's biography. Stones of 2 and 2.75 inches are structural hail: they crack concrete tile, punch through aging shake, and bruise asphalt mats hard enough that roofs which passed a quick 2018 adjuster look began leaking two winters later. If your roof predates 2018 and was never replaced or thoroughly documented afterward, assume nothing about its condition. The 2016 event at 1.75 inches was severe on the same scale, while 2019 and 2024 sat at the claim threshold, the inch to inch and a quarter range where damage is real but selective, finding the oldest slopes and the softest materials first.
